Brendon Reis is a visual artist known for highlighting blackness, sexuality and intimacy in his paintings and sculptures. His works explores dilemmas surrounding the identity of Black subjects/figures who have historically been underrepresented in art history. Using ultramarine blue as a primary medium and focusing portraiture, the artist seeks to bring Black and queer figures to life through striking textures and facial details, with extra care to details, like the hair, lips, noses, as well as the layers and depth of the skin. His work addresses themes such as affection, sensuality, detachment, and coldness.
